Changing a WordPress theme can leave old custom template assignments attached to posts and pages. Before making changes, keep a backup and use your existing staging environment to inspect the actual page output. A saved template key and the template WordPress ultimately renders are different pieces of evidence.
WP Template Assignment Review provides a read-only inventory under Tools. Administrators can browse twenty rows at a time or select an exact eligible post/page ID. Every inspected row requires permission to edit that post. Titles, post bodies and template display names are omitted, so the inventory stays focused on assignment keys and comparison results.
Default means no explicit custom key was found. Listed now means the key appears in the current filtered theme list for that post type. Not listed now means it was absent from the inspected list. Unknown means the comparison could not establish a result, including when the registry exceeded the first 100 entries. Unsafe or malformed assignment values are withheld rather than printed into the admin screen.
Use those results to choose pages for manual staging checks. Review their actual layouts, navigation and content before deciding whether any assignments need changing. A missing key alone does not establish a broken page. Theme filters can vary by request, and the front-end template hierarchy may choose a different file. This tool does not resolve block templates or certify file existence or layout health.
The inventory is ordered by post ID, and it can shift if posts change while you browse. Use an exact ID when returning to a particular assignment. The reviewer does not edit assignments, modify themes, execute template files, repair pages or send post content to external services. Freemius handles licensing, updates and account connection separately.
Pro costs $19 USD per year for one site, plus applicable tax. It requires WordPress 6.2 or newer and PHP 8.0 or newer. Check the product scope and conditional 14-day refund terms before purchasing. Choose it when saved assignment review fits your workflow; rendered layout checks still belong in your staging process.
