Creator disclosure: We make WP Menu Structure Review through Empire Publishing Tools. This guide explains where our paid plugin can help and where manual checks are still necessary.
A menu that looks wrong in a theme can have several causes. A saved parent relationship may be unusual, but theme styling, visibility rules and block navigation can also affect what visitors see. Start by identifying whether the navigation uses a classic WordPress menu. A storage review of classic menu items will not explain every problem in a rendered navigation bar.
Start with a backup and a staging copy. Record which menu you intend to examine and the behavior you want to investigate. Avoid making a series of live edits just to see whether a symptom disappears. The review itself is read-only; any later repairs should follow your normal backup and testing process.
WP Menu Structure Review lets an authorized administrator choose a classic menu ID and inspect its saved parent relationships. It lists item IDs, parent IDs and findings in batches of twenty rows. Labels and destination URLs are withheld from the report. The reviewer does not visit destinations, change parent values or create scheduled scans.
Interpret findings within their scope. Root means the saved parent is zero. Linked means the inspected chain reaches a root. A cycle means the chain repeats an item. Missing parent means a referenced parent is absent from the fully inspected menu, which is different from proving that the referenced item has been deleted everywhere. Invalid metadata needs inspection before any correction.
The review stops at one hundred items per menu and thirty-two parent steps. A partial review is incomplete, and unknown depth or partial findings are not a clean bill of health. These limits keep each review bounded. They also mean a large or unusually deep menu may require additional investigation outside this tool.
Finish with a real navigation check. Test the theme's rendered menu on relevant devices and account states. Check the destinations, keyboard navigation and visibility separately. The plugin does not certify accessibility, validate URLs or inspect block-based navigation. It does not automatically repair anything.
WP Menu Structure Review Pro costs $19 USD per year for one website and requires WordPress 6.2 or later and PHP 8.0 or later. Access requires both manage_options and edit_theme_options. Freemius handles licensing and checkout separately. Review renewal details, taxes and the conditional fourteen-day refund policy before purchasing.
