During a content migration or editorial handoff, an attachment's saved parent can be useful context. It is not a complete map of where that image or document appears. Media can be embedded in multiple posts, used by a theme, referenced in a widget or linked from another site. A missing or empty parent relationship therefore does not establish that a file is unused.
WP Attachment Parent Review gives administrators a read-only view of those immediate relationships. Open Tools > Attachment Parent Review to browse twenty attachments at a time, or enter an exact attachment ID when investigating a specific record. Each row requires permission to edit the attachment. Parent IDs, type and status are displayed only when you can also edit the parent post or page.
The reviewer distinguishes unattached records, missing parents, available parents and withheld or unsupported relationships. A missing parent means the stored reference did not resolve to a post in the current database read. Withheld means the reviewer cannot expose that parent's details under the current user's permissions. Neither result is permission to remove a file.
The relationship filter applies to the current inventory page, not the whole media library. An empty filtered page can still have a Next link because later attachments may match. The inventory is ordered by attachment ID and may shift when media records change. Use exact-ID selection when returning to a particular attachment.
Titles, post bodies, file paths and URLs are omitted from the reviewer output. Parent types other than posts and pages remain unsupported. The tool does not scan blocks or external references, check whether files exist, reassign media, delete files or certify backups. Freemius separately handles licensing, updates and account connection.
Use relationship results to guide a manual editorial review. Before any destructive media work, follow your existing backup and staging process and verify actual usage with a suitable workflow. This plugin deliberately leaves that decision to you; a parent relationship alone is insufficient evidence.
