Before changing a WordPress discussion policy, separate the saved settings from the answers WordPress currently gives through its filters. A plugin can change whether comments or pings are considered open without rewriting the stored setting. A mismatch is a useful investigation lead, not proof that visitors can or cannot submit feedback.
Start with a read-only review. WP Discussion Policy Review shows these two layers side by side for eligible posts and pages. It displays twenty records per page and flags disagreements without opening comment records or changing content. It requires administrator access and permission to edit each record. Titles and content are omitted.
Validate the visitor experience separately. Review mismatches in staging, inspect the relevant theme and plugin settings, and check the actual front-end workflow before making changes. Authentication, moderation, anti-spam and server rules remain outside this report. Existing comments may remain visible after new comments are closed.
Use it for a focused maintenance task. The Pro plugin costs $19/year for one website, with a conditional 14-day refund policy and applicable checkout taxes. It does not promise traffic, spam reduction or security protection. If you only need to change one known page, WordPress’s native discussion controls may be enough.
A practical review sequence. Begin with a small set of posts whose intended policy you already know. Compare the saved comment flag with the current answer, then do the same for pings. If the two disagree, record the content ID and check plugins that filter discussion behavior before changing the saved setting. In a staging copy, compare the logged-out visitor form with the administrator report. Test moderation and authentication separately; the report does not inspect those controls.
Keep the result in context. Work through the next page of records and retain the IDs that need investigation. The mismatch count describes only the displayed page, not every post on your site. After any approved settings change, repeat the relevant checks. Keep existing comments and backups intact: this tool neither identifies comments for deletion nor removes them.
