A downloadable worksheet or guide can remain linked long after a content refresh. Before replacing that link, establish where it appears and what it points to. Start with the saved post or page, inspect the intended download, and decide whether the surrounding explanation still matches what a reader receives.
Disclosure: We publish WP Download Link Inventory through Empire Publishing Tools. It is our paid WordPress plugin for reviewing supported download links in saved content and matching them to local media records. It does not crawl your site, certify that downloads work or repair links automatically.
The inventory appears under Tools in WordPress and is available to administrators with permission to edit the content. It reviews five posts or pages per screen, including accessible drafts and private content. Each item has a limit of 100 anchor tags and 200 KB. Treat a partial or skipped result as a scope limit, not an all-clear signal.
For each supported upload path, a matching media record gives you a convenient route to the WordPress media editor. An unresolved result means the local mapping was not established. It does not prove a broken download: a file can exist outside the Media Library, and a media record can remain after a file has moved. The actual visitor experience needs a separate check.
Use the source-content edit link to review the sentence around a download. Make sure the label describes the file, the surrounding instructions are current and the destination is appropriate for your audience. If you change anything, save the content and refresh the inventory. Results are generated again rather than retained as a potentially stale report.
The inventory supports common document and archive extensions under the current site's uploads base. External or CDN URLs, encoded paths, query strings and fragments are skipped. It reads saved HTML only, so links produced by shortcodes, dynamic blocks, templates or other front-end rendering remain outside its view. Keep those limitations in your own review checklist.
The plugin makes no inventory-related URL requests or file reads, and stores no scan history. License verification uses Freemius separately. Pro costs $19 USD annually for one site, plus applicable taxes, and requires WordPress 6.2+ and PHP 8.0+. Check renewal and conditional refund terms at checkout. Choose it for this focused review workflow; it does not promise search visibility or sales gains.
